The autopsy results are back on a 13-year-old that jumped into a reservoir in Caswell County last week.
The Medical Examiners Office in Roanoke, Virginia, ruled that Damien Farmer died as a result of fresh water drowning.
Farmer, who was a student at Dillard Middle School in Yanceyville, died last Wednesday morning although he jumped into the reservoir on Tuesday afternoon.
The Caswell County 911 Center received a call at 5:15 last Tuesday that a teenager had jumped into a reservoir located behind the Yanceyville Water Plant off of the Badgett Sisters Parkway.
When Caswell County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, they entered the water in an attempt to locate the teen, but because of the water temperature and depth, they could not find him.
When the Yanceyville Fire Department and Caswell EMS arrived, the search continued, and the rescuers also received help from the Danville Rescue Dive Team and the Danville Lifesaving Crew.
The Dive team entered the water where the teen went into the water, and within minutes he was located in approximately twenty-four foot of water.
That teen, Damien Farmer, was transported by Caswell County’s EMS to Danville Regional Medical Center – but he was pronounced dead at 1:30 Wednesday morning.
The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office has referred the case to the Child Protection unit of the Caswell County Department of Social Services for review.
