We’re now in week two of local filings for county and state political offices, and one person filed on Monday for Rockingham County Commissioner.
The Rockingham County Board of Elections reports that Eric Smith of Ruffin filed as a candidate for the Board of Commissioners. Smith’s filing means there are five people running for the three positions.
The other four include Leanna Lawson of Ruffin, Mark Richardson of Stokesdale, James Kallam of Stokesdale, and Royce Richardson of Madison.
In the race for Rockingham County’s Register of Deeds, only one person has filed so far, and that’s Rebecca Cipriani of Summerfield who is the incumbent.
Filing for state offices last week was Phil Berger who wants to hold on to his seat for the 26th District of the North Carolina Senate; and Bryan Holloway who wants to keep his job in the 91st District of the North Carolina House.
Bert Jones has filed to keep his seat in the 65th District of the North Carolina House; and he has a challenger, William Osbourne of Eden.
Those interested in running for county and state offices can file until noon on Wednesday, February 29th.
Filing takes place at the Board of Elections office in Wentworth.
