The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office is looking for two men who may be a part of a rash of vehicle break ins near Madison and even used a state law enforcement helicopter earlier today to try and find them.
The Sheriff’s Office has approximately twenty different reports of vehicle break-ins in the area of the Gold Hill Road at Sharpe Road near Madison -- an area that has fallen victim to a rash of vehicle break-ins since November of 2011.
Earlier this morning, an eye witness caught two white males dressed in all black, one taller and one shorter, trying to break into her vehicle. The suspects then fled on foot after being spotted.
A short time later, one of the suspects was spotted on foot near Kallam Grove Christian Church by Sheriff’s deputies and again fled into the surrounding wooded area.
A manhunt was then conducted by Rockingham County Sheriff’s deputies, aided by their own K-9 units and dogs from the Department of Correction, Triad Bloodhounds, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
The Highway Patrol also provided the deputies and K-9 officers with ground support, and even brought in their own helicopter to aid in the search for the suspects.
The two suspects are still at large as Sheriff’s detectives continue to investigate these break-ins.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about this theft to contact Detective Captain Billy Parker at (336) 634-3232 or Rockingham County Crimestoppers at (336) 349-9683.
