The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office reports that their own deputies, working with officers from the North Carolina Highway Patrol and the D.E.A., seized approximately 1,100 pounds of Marijuana on Tuesday.
The large haul of the marijuana came from 161 Cole Road near Reidsville, and the marijuana has an estimated street value of $660,000. Three men were arrested, and the Sheriff of Rockingham County says all three have been confirmed to be in the United States illegally. Arrested as a result of this investigation was 23-year-old Jose Manuel Bahena; 30-year-old Esteban Valentin Rojas; and 24-year-old Jose De Jesus Villa.
According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, all three men have been confirmed to be in the United States illegally from Mexico. Each was placed in the Rockingham County Jail under $1,000,000 bond. They are all scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 9th.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the deputies also seized several hundred thousand dollars in cash, a firearm, a small amount of cocaine, a 2004 Nissan Titan and a Jeep Liberty.
In commenting about the large seizure, Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page said this is an example of how the southern borders of the United States affects Rockingham County, and why he continues to fight for increased security of national borders.
