The Reidsville Police Department is giving one of their officers a pat on the back for a job well done.
That’s because she responded to a call of someone in a house, and walked in on a man who was supposedly removing copper from under the house. It happened on Tuesday morning at around 3:45.
Wendell Neville, who is the Captain of the Reidsville Police Department’s patrol division, said that the department received a call for help from Quient Benfield of 511 Barnes Street and Benfield told dispatchers that he believed someone was in his basement.
The report said that Benfield told dispatchers that he was awakened by a loud bang, then he could hear what appeared to be someone messing around with his water heater and pipes.
Reidsville Police officer Caroline Moore arrived on the scene on Barnes Street, and when she entered the basement of the benfield home, she came into contact with Christopher Carl Bailey.
According to the report, Bailey was arrested without incident, Officer Moore saw Bailey in the basement, and it appeared that he was attempting to remove copper pipe from underneath the house.
Officer Moore told Bailey to put his hands behind his back, and he was taken into custody without incident. Other officers arrived on scene and helped Officer Moore, and Christopher Carl Bailey was taken to the police department where he was processed.
Bailey, who gave an address of 115 Thompson Heights Road in Reidsville, was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering/Attempted; Breaking and Entering/No Force; and Injury to Real Property. Bailey’s bond was set at $5,000 and his court date was set for January 18th.
The report from the police department listed the value of the copper at $500.
