The Register & Bee out of Danville is reporting that three Pittsylvania County men were arrested on gun, drug and other charges in Greensboro, N.C.

Marcus Deshay Briggs, 24, of Ringgold; Byron Alan Dawson, 25, of Chatham; and Jared Lamar Bennett, 25, of Java, were all arrested after the Greensboro Police Department responded to a call of shots fired on South Elm Street at about 2:20 on Sunday morning, which was New Year’s Day.

Officers arrived at the scene and spoke to witnesses who described the suspects’ vehicle. One officer spotted the vehicle nearby, and the vehicle reportedly accelerated toward the officer, according to the Greensboro Police Department. The officer fired one shot at the vehicle and hit it. After a short pursuit, the three men were taken into custody without further incident. No one was injured in the incident.

Briggs, the driver of the vehicle, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon for driving the vehicle toward the officer. He was also charged with possession of marijuana, careless and reckless driving and failure to heed blue lights. Briggs was held at the Guilford County Detention Center on $10,000 bond, and he’s been released on bond.

 Dawson was charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied property and possession of marijuana. He was held on a $10,000 bond which he’s posted and since been released.

Bennett was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana. He was held until he paid a bond of $6,000 later in the day and was released.

Greensboro detectives continue to investigate the incident, and further charges may be pending. All three defendants are scheduled to appear in Guilford County District Court on February 2nd.
