In a special meeting, the School Board of Henry County unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Jared A. Cotton to serve as the new superintendent of Henry County Public Schools beginning on January 17, 2012.

Dr. Jared A. Cotton is the Associate Superintendent for Educational Leadership and Assessment for Virginia Beach City Public Schools.  According to Virginia Beach City Public Schools website, the school system has a student enrollment of 69,251, a total of 81 schools and four specialty centers, and 15,714 employees.  Dr. Cotton received a doctorate degree in educational administration and policy studies from George Washington University in 2003, a master's degree in educational administration from George Washington University, and a bachelor's degree in middle school education from Old Dominion University.
